The Underlying Principle of the U. S. A.

Freedom
It's freedom.  Sometimes it's called "liberty".

The understanding of the foundational principle of the United States of America was and is critical to her survival and thriving.

That principle is that "Rights are given to men by God, and only by God".

( The failure to remember and appreciate this truth is ,without a doubt, the clear reason for any ills seen in the U.S. today. )

That God is the One who gives men their rights was/is the basis for the Declaration of Independence.

"...When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them..."

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness..."

This is the stated focus of the United States Constitution.
The Preamble blatantly aims to "secure the Blessings of Liberty"...

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

And the principle is clearly obvious in the charter documents of the original thirteen colonies.

The Preamble of the State of Delaware begins...

"Through Divine goodness, all people have by nature the rights of worshiping and serving their Creator according to the dictates of their consciences, of enjoying and defending life and liberty, of acquiring and protecting reputation and property, and in general of obtaining objects suitable to their condition, without injury by one to another; and as these rights are essential to their welfare, for due exercise thereof, power is inherent in them; and therefore all just authority in the institutions of political society is derived from the people, and established with their consent, to advance their happiness..."

The founders understood that because our freedoms come from God, that in the ideal system of government, belief in God is essential. And in a government on the earth, the eternal truth that God gives men eternal liberty could be applied practically [at least for 250 years].

Believers in God can have faith that He, who gives whatever freedom we have here in this world, also wants to give us freedom, through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ [without end].
